But I learnt something today...as I got off at Vikroli station (i.e. Central Mumbai). At the rickshaw stand as always they had their tantrums. But one healthy guy from these rickshaw-wala got off his rick and made people stand in a queue and told everyone not to mention our destination just sit and till you reach some particular junction then mention your way or else none of these people would entertain you.WEIRD! but it actually worked and the best part is the driver said nothing and I reached happily without cribbing. So I thought we all should make a THUMB-RULE to get our way out of this "NO" business. As that healthy rickshaw guy said just directly SIT & STICK and later mention your destination. If we start doing this, then probably their tantrums reduce and it works for our good. What say?

"NO"..."no"..."NO"....grrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
Since the Tariff rates of Taxi and Rickshaws in Mumbai have increased these guys have stopped driving but started flying...I fail to understand them completely, I mean they neither want to go anywhere close by nor too far...I don't know how these guys earn their daily bingo because all they say is "NO" "no" "NO"... Sometimes we look like those beggars on the streets the only difference is they pleading for money and we plead for a rick/taxi yet you hear is big "NO"..catching a train or waiting for a bus is better but taking a taxi or rickshaw now a days is task...

I agree. I think we as commuters are just polite and ask... And rick drivers take advantage of that fact... I've seen people do this approach... Just sit and tell the guy where to go. Although sometimes there are genuine reasons why they don't want to go... It might be that their shift time is ending and they don't want to go off too far from their rickshaw return point. I'll try this sometime.
ReplyDeletealso, people might not be aware about a complaint facility available with traffic police mumbai... They have a number you can call toll free - 1800-22-0110 or you can register a complaint later on their website...
http://www.trafficpolicemumbai.org/Complaint_Auto_taxi_form.htm
people (including myself) should start using this if the auto rickshaw driver doesn't have a valid excuse for not going to your destination...
If u really wanna Enjoy the Tantrums , try visiting Bandra terminus and try getting a Rick or Cab for SION .
ReplyDeleteThese Rascals ask 150 for Sion Or they just keep u waiting.Avg waiting time for u to get a rick/cab there is 15-20 minutes .....
well...may be you should post a complain on the toll free number - 1800-22-0110 or probably login to http://www.trafficpolicemumbai.org/Complaint_Auto_taxi_form.htm
ReplyDeleteas suggested by one of my friend Anshul
hey Anshul, thx for posting the toll free number and the link....
ReplyDeleteWell let's hope we dnt have to rely on another meter jam campaign
ReplyDeleteor next time some rickshawallah says no... hold you clenched fist close to your face and mumble some weird lingo (probably some metallica lyric), blow it on the face of the rickshawallah and boast " jaa baccha, tera ricksha pe abhishraap hai... hah hahahahaha" laugh menancingly and storm away. :)
ReplyDeletegood one siraj...
ReplyDeletei understand the plight of a citizen because of the menace by the rick and taxi drivers.... but we shud also look at the other side of the story... they are doing this things to earn more for themselves.. but they might be havin reasons also.. we are havin a problem bcoz they have some problem.. they have to pay "haftas" and fill pockets of traffic police officers to queue up on certain important stands. most of them are driving the vehicle for someone else who is the owner. he hardly gets anythin out of the day's hard work.. im sorry i mite sound disagreeing.. but before we blame them we understand the real reasons for them undertakin such practices.. so a possible solution is to solve their underlying problems n the problem being transferred to the commuters will automatically disappear..
ReplyDeleteWell what u say is not wrong...but waiting for a rick/taxi half hr is too much...and their problem is they still want to increase the tariff rate.Like i remember reading somewhere about rickshaws wanted 16bucks starting meter.Always govt. cannot support and mold by their demands.
